South African trainer Mike de Kock continued to reap the rewards at the inaugural Dubai International Racing Carnival when he sent out Right Approach and Surveyor to score a spectacular one-two finish in the featured Al Rashidiya Unfuwain Stakes (Listed) at Nad Al Sheba yesterday.Formerly trained by Sir Michael Stoute for Queen Elizabeth II, Right Approach won by a neck from his stable companion as five horses raced for the line in the $140,000 race. Front-running St. Expedit, ridden by Gary Hind for Rashid Bouresly, was a neck back in third and a head clear of the Mick Channon-trained Checkit. Less than a length separated the front four. The well-bred Three Graces, making his debut for Godolphin after his four-win campaign with Marcus Tregoning in England, showed a willing attitude to win the Swain Stud Stakes under Frankie Dettori.
Former champion trainer Satish Seemar landed his third pattern race success of the Carnival, and second in days, when Big Easy stormed to a record-breaking win the Group 2 Bani Yas Shadwell Farm Stakes for Purebred Arabians.
The seven-year-old, who won the Group 3 Al Ruwais at Abu Dhabi four weeks ago, made all in the 1200m contest on turf to win by three and a half lengths from Mushaagib with Qatari raider Al Anood a further half length back in third.
Ted Durcan continued his successful partnership with the American bred horse who has now won an impressive 15 of 25 career starts.
Big Easy, who shares his name with one of the best golfers in the world, South Africa's Ernie Els, won in time of 1:17.80 seconds to eclipse the course and distance record set by Barari back in 2002.
Seemar was all praise for the horse.
"He is the most consistent horse that I've ever trained," he said, paying Big Easy the ultimate compliment. "It's always a pleasure to have horses like him in the stable.
"In his right distance, 1000 to 2000 metres, he's kind of invincible."
English Derby winning trainer John Gosden made a dream to the Carnival when he scored his first runner, Rawyaan, in the Aljabr Stakes over 2400 metres on turf.
The winner of a conditions race in his last start at Doncaster's St. Leger meeting in September the five-year-old son of Machivellian was delivered late by Richard Hills to deprive the Allan Smith-trained Kayseri and India's Classical Act, who produced a huge effort for big-race trainer S. Padmanabhan.
"The horse did it very well, he looked in good condition," said Gosden who saddled Benny The Dip to win the Derby at Epsom in 1997.
On a day when records bit the dust Dubai-based Kuwaiti trainer Rashid Bouresly sent out Cat Belling for his second outing in two days to win the Nashwan Stakes over 1,500 m etres on turf.
Cat Belling's time of 1:29.47 bettered the existing course and distance record set by Mustafhel in 2001.
