Mijdadd lives up to expectations   Print  E-mail
Mijdadd made a winning debut and evoked memories of the great racing feats achieved by his mother Al Anudd while Saken lived up to his favourite tag to win the Sheikh Falah bin Zayed Al Nahyan UAE Breeders Cup at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club last night. Trainers Dr. Jaber Bittar and Yancey Carter Jr. and jockeys Richard Mullen and David Hayse also shared the limelight in yesterday's 7-race meeting, with a double each.

Mijdadd, the first foal of Al Anudd (Unchained Melody) - one of the most popular Purebred Arabian horses that raced here in the UAE with a tremendous record was greeted with loud cheers when he entered the winner's enclosure after a brilliant debut run.

The 4-year-old bay colt by Dormane out of Al Anudd, under jockey David Hayse, did not get off to the best of starts. But running with a couple of highly-rated horses, Midjadd did well to come up with a driving finish when reminded by Hayse.

Yancey and Hayse again combined in the penultimate race to produce a winner in debutant Siehame.

Later, in the feature event over 1600 metres, Jaber Bittar's Saken was steered home to a convincing win by Seamus O'Gormon for the 5-year-old Bibi De Carrere son's sixth win in 9 starts.

"He likes to challenge last and that's what he did today. Saken was travelling well and it was easy to pick a spot to make the final run," said Seamus, who led a 1-2 finish for Bittar with AF Athhalatni (Craig Arnold up) in second place.

The evening's racing kicked off in style for the in-form jockey Richard Mullen who partnered Doug Watson's Maxin to a fine win in the only race for thoroughbreds.
