Noseda, Butler seek end to Dubai drought   Print  E-mail
Former Godolphin trainer Jeremy Noseda has once again enlisted the services of big race rider Frankie Dettori in a bid to secure his first winner at the Dubai International Racing Carnival.

Dettori, Godolphin's stable jockey, will partner Adiemus who has performed creditably in two starts over 1800metres on dirt.

The switch to turf for today's Emirates airline Stakes, and a step up in distance, could suit the son of Green Desert who looks to have a big chance in the $90,000 contest.

Newmarket-trained Adiemus takes on 11 rivals among them other Newmarket hopefuls, David Loder's Shami, Mark Johnston's Arabie and Ed Dunlop's Anani.

The field also includes the locally-trained Mubeen, who was a close second behind Emteyaz over ten furlongs on his last start, and former Jebel Ali Stakes winner Clodion, who is looking for his first win in 14 months.

Adiemus, a winner of the Winter Derby at Lingfield's all-weather two season's back, has not won since but was placed six times in 13 starts.

The most recent being a noteworthy third behind the very impressive Deodatus on fast ground at Nad Al Sheba.

The Green Desert six-year-old should have come on for that effort and should secure Noseda's first Carnival success.

Two other British trainers, Gerard Butler and Mick Channon, will also be hoping to get off the mark in the Carnival today.

Butler saddles Boston Lodge, who was caught on the line by Hazelhatch in his last start in the $100,000 Emirates Airline Cup and Self Evident in the $90,000 Emirates Airline Plate. Both horses run with big chances.

Following Boston Lodge's narrow defeat Butler moaned: "How many times will we hit the crossbar. I don't know what we've got to do to get a winner here."

Oxon-based Butler's five-strong Dubai team have earned two second places, two thirds and one fourth.

England football star– turned trainer Channon runs Pic Up Sticks, who was third behind Hazelhatch and Boston Lodge, in the Emirates Airline Cup and should have come on for that run.

The ten-runner field also includes South African Grade 2 winner Super Brand, who makes her UAE debut, and Jebel Ali Stable's consistent performer Raheibb.

Godolphin have the one representative in the seven-race card, Rosencrans, who was third behind Little Jim in the UAE 2000 Guineas over a mile three weeks back.

The American-bred colt is among seven runners, that includes leading UAE trainer Mazin Al Kurdi's three race winner Prince of Denmark, contesting the $25,000 Conditions race over 1500metres.

Godolphin trainer Saeed bin Suroor is pleased with how the colt has come out of the race and commented: "He ran well in the Guineas and he should improve for that race. He is in very good form and looks well."

Rosencrans was trained as a two-year-old in the United States by Eoin Harty and won an Arlington Park maiden over five and a half furlongs easily in July on his only start during 2003.

Other notables in the race are two other Al Kurdi runners, Slane Hill and Storm Of Tara.

Doug Watson's Sleeping Weapon goes for his third win in the $100,000 Emirates Airline Classic where Macau raider Lord Nelson will hope to make it third time lucky for trainer Malcolm Thwaites.
