Jockey Durcan in the 'spot'light   Print  E-mail
Ted Durcan was both the star and the offender at yesterday's Dubai International
Yasir Mabrouk, the Senior Clerk of the Scales, reported Durcan to the Stewards after the jockey weighed in at 61.4kilos, 600 grams lighter than the official weight of 62kilos.

Durcan refused to comment on the incident until he had appeared before the Stewards after the last race. Satish Seemar, who trained the winner, said he was disappointed with the decision taking into consideration that his horse had won by a margin of one and three quarters of a length.

The ruling saw Cat Belling, who finished second to Feet So Fast, promoted to first place giving Dubai based Kuwaiti trainer another Carnival success.

On a happier note former Godolphin trainer Jeremy Noseda claimed his first success of the Carnival when Adiemus landed the $90,000 Emirates airline Trophy over 2000metres on turf.

The six-year-old son of Green Desert clearly relished the return to turf after two runs on dirt, a surface that he showed he could act on but did not enjoy, with a superior effort under the confident handling of Frankie Dettori.

Noseda, who worked with Godolphin during its formative years in the mid nineties, was not present but his assistant Dave Bradley was over the moon with the performance.

"We've done what we'd come here to do. And that's to win a race," he said. "It took three tries but he did it in style today and we're absolutely delighted.

"Obviously there are not many opportunities for him after this in Dubai. So that was possibly his last run here before we go back to England."

Legendary Irish trainer Dermott Weld's Evolving Tactics made an eyecatching Dubai debut to win the $90,000 Emirates Airline Plate by two and a half lengths from the Allan Smith-trained Kundooz, with Michael Kettle's Skoozi one and three quarter lengths back in third.

A Grade 2 winner in the US last year, the son of Machiavellian will now be aimed at the $2 million Dubai Duty Free on Dubai World Cup night.

Earlier Godolphin's Rosencrans, third in the UAE 2,000 Guineas to Little Jim earlier this month, confirmed his credentials with an awesome nine and a half length dismemberment of his six rivals in the Skywards Plate over 1,500 metres on dirt.
