A cracking seven-event
card has been framed for today's final race meet of the season at the Jebel Ali
Racecourse. All the seven races have attracted full fields of 16 runners each,
making it one of the most competitive and open meets of the season.
Among
the many highlights is the popular Jebel Ali Sprint which has attracted some of
the best sprinters in the land who could not make it to the big race on next
Saturday's Dubai World Cup card. The field reads like a
who's who of sprint racing in the UAE with top speedsters like Conceal,
Conflict, Persuasivo Fitz, Raging Creek, San Salvador, Speeling Weapon and Cat
Belling lining up to contest the five furlong race which carries a rich purse of
Dh350,000.
However, the one that catches the eye most is the Doug
Watson-trained Saddad, who was an impressive winner over six furlongs at Nad Al
Sheba. A high-class juvenile sprinter when trained in the UK, the son of Gone
West looks a leading contender to land the race sponsored by
Shadwell.
Others who should have a big say are Mazin Al Kurdi's
all-purpose performer Conflict, who also holds an invitation for the $2million
Godolphin Mile on the Dubai World Cup card.
Al Kurdi aims to run the
eight-year-old today before he directs him to contest the Mile next Saturday.
Conflict, the mount of Gary Hind, will be looking for his second pattern race
success at this track having earlier in the season won the Jebel Ali
Mile.
Rashid Bouresly's Conceal, who will be partnered by Newmarket-based
Stanley Chin, should go close along with Al Kurdi's San Salvador and the Willie
Supple-ridden Sleeping Weapon. But which ever way you look at it the Jebel Ali
Sprint looks a very open race where tactics are likely to play a big
part.
The Jebel Ali Racecourse management have gone to great lengths to
ensure that the season ends on a high note at this popular 'family racecourse.'
More than 100 exclusive prizes, including electronic items and jewellery will be
given away to lucky racegoers.
In addition many free gifts donated by the
sponsors will be distributed to the public at the entrance to the race
course. |
