Mullen, Durcan all set to for an exciting race   Print  E-mail
The neck-and-neck battle between championship hopefuls Richard Mullen and Ted Durcan is likely to be at the forefront of today's all-Arabian race meeting at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club.

With just two more meetings remaining this season there will be all to play for in today's seven-race card.
Mullen, who leads Durcan by 38-36 winners has rides in all the seven races while Durcan has bookings for six races.

In almost four out of the seven races, Mullen and Durcan's mount appear to be evenly matched and their performances in these races could very well hold the key to the title.

However, the Gary Hind-ridden Beguin de Piboul from trainer Gillian Duffield's yard, appeals most in the opening race.

Mullen rides the Doug Watson-trained Kasid while Durcan partners James Frazier Jr's Mash Hoor in the second race.

Richard Hills was aboard Mash Hoor when the pair finished third, less than a length behind Kasid, last time out. With Durcan replacing Paul Hanagan and Mullen coming in for Hills, a keen contest is on the cards.

Mullen looks to have an edge on Ahmadani Musafer over Duran's Moutawaj in the fourth race but their battle could be spoiled by the Jaber Bittar-trained Mawood or Julio Peromingo's Al Nab'a.

In the next race Ted Durcan looks to have the upper hand on AF Jalmood but will be conceding 4kg to Mullen's WS Aseel.

In the sixth race, Mullen does not have Durcan to contend with but his mount Tahadiy faces some tough opposition in the form of AF Yasater, Sadiq, Carat and Kasser.

The two aces will resume their rivalry in the final race with Durcan partnering Duffield's Maymoune, twice second in recent starts. Mullen rides Julian Smart's Fatenah who has a lot to make up on recent form.
