Royal Stables – tribute to late President Sheikh Zayed   Print  E-mail

The late President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan has always championed the cause of protecting Purebred Arabian horse. "He had a great vision for the progress of the Purebred Arabian horse and made sure it progressed in the right way," said Charles E. Wilson, who is the Assistant Director General to The Royal Stables.

His father, Colonel E.V.B Wilson, helped set up The Royal Stables and initiate the breeding of Arabian horses under the directions of Shaikh Zayed. The Colonel, 83, lives in Abu Dhabi and remains the Director of the Royal Stables.

"My father enjoyed a close relationship with Shaikh Zayed for over 40 years during which period The Royal Stables was set up," said Charles.

"I have grown up here in the UAE and Shaikh Zayed always ensured that the correct pedigree of desert-breed of Purebred Arabian horses existed today.

"One of his favourites horses here at the Royal Stables was Maleik Al Kheil. Vain Huzar, famously photographed with Shaikh Zayed seated and holding a falcon in his hand, is still here at the stables. He is 24-years-old," said Chales.

"Shaikh Zayed personally instructed my father to ensure great care and support was extended to breeding of Purebred Arabian horses."
