Godolphin's Frankie Dettori has picked up a handsome book of rides as he makes his seasonal debut today. The Italian returns to the saddle after a short break and will be looking to quickly get off the mark for the new year. Dettori, who clinched his tenth century of winners at the end of the 2003 UK flat season, last rode Falbrav to victory in the Hong Kong Cup for trainer Luca Cumani. He said he yesterday that he was looking forward to the Carnival and looking to ride as many winners as he could.
"The Carnival is a great concept. It has attracted some of the best horses and trainers and I'm sure it's going to be extremely competitive," said Dettori. Meanwhile Godolphin, who retain Dettori as their first jockey, are likely to have their first runners for the year at the February 5 meeting at Nad Al Sheba.
Trainer Saeed bin Suroor hinted that the 2000 Guineas could be the launch-pad for the season. |
